In traditional Chinese healing methods, cloves have been used in treating indigestion, hernia, diarrhea and ringworm and other fungal infections. Ayurvedic physicians in India have long used cloves to treat respiratory and digestive ailments. Herbalists in Germany used cloves as a part of mixture for anti-gout treatment. American physicians used clove to treat digestive disorders, and the clove oil extract is used on the gums to relieve toothache. An infusion of clove extract will help relieve nausea, while a few drops of clove oil in water will help stop vomiting.
Cloves have wonderful anti-septic, antibiotic and anaesthetic properties. It is also said to be an aphrodisiac. It is much in use as an herbal remedy in Asian and Arab countries, particularly for treating toothache and is an ingredient in toothpaste and mouthwash. It is a common spice in India.
