Echinacea–Echinacea angustifolia–fresh root
Echinacea–Echinacea purpurea–fresh flower and seed
This compound acts as a nonspecific immune system stimulant, being effective with bacterial and viral infections, inflammations, fevers, and tissue injuries. It is very useful at the onset of all viral infections of the mucous membranes - sinus, nasal, th roat, lungs and bronchial tract. Echinacea is ideal for what is called in Chinese Medicine "surface conditions", illnesses that come and go and are not deeply seated or chronic.
Colds and flu are classic examples of surface conditions, as are abscesses, bronchitis, sore throats, and many other common infections, if they are not chronic. For such conditions our immune systems have cells called macrophages that quickly migrate to the site of infections to stop bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens from gaining a foothold, or to eliminate them once they have already entered into the body. Tests show that Echinacea greatly stimulates these macrophages and increases their effectiveness.
Echinacea activates anti-pathogenic vitality and focuses immune system resources at the surface to ward off viral and bacterial infections. Useful with infections of all kinds including colds, flus, sinus infections, slow to heal sores and infections of the mouth and gums.
Preventative dose - when the immune system becomes weak or compromised such as in transition, during travel or in times of stress -take 18-30 drops in a little warm water three times per day.
In acute situations - with onset of infection, cold or flu - take 30-60 drops in a little warm water every 2-3 hours until symptoms subside, then reduce dose to three times per day.
